The BBC Press Office has released the official episode synopsis for the fourth episode of the current series, The Doctor's Wife - read it below:

The Doctor receives a distress signal from an old friend. Could there really be another living Time Lord out there? Hopes raised, he follows the signal to a junkyard planet sitting upon a mysterious asteroid in a Bubble universe, populated by a very strange family, as the time-travelling drama continues.
The Doctor, Amy and Rory are given the warmest of welcomes by Auntie, Uncle and Nephew. But the beautiful and insane Idris greets them in a more unusual fashion – what is she trying to tell the Doctor? As the Doctor investigates, he unwittingly puts his friends in the gravest danger.
The Doctor is played by Matt Smith, Amy by Karen Gillan, Rory by Arthur Darvill and Idris by Suranne Jones.

This week's issue of the UK television listings magazine the Radio Times has a Doctor Who cover (click on the pic below for a bigger version) and a four~page feature inside, including a guide to Series 6. In it, Steven Moffat teases (SPOILERS follow after the pic):

• Amy and Rory are caught up in a century~spanning scheme.

• The Silence blew up the TARDIS.

• The lines,"Fear me - I've killed hundreds of Time Lords," and "Fear me - I've killed all of them," come from The Doctor's Wife.

• The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People is about "an alien shape~changer and an industrial dispute"; a cross between The Thing and Made In Dagenham.

• A Good Man Goes To War sees The Doctor and Rory "blaze across galaxies to save the woman in both their lives." It also sees the return of the Cybermen.

The Canadian television channel Space has posted an interview with writer Neil Gaiman where he specifically talks about his episode, The Doctor's Wife. Watch it HERE but be warned, there are spoilers.... Included after the picture below are some teasers.

Starts on a junkyard planet - "the Totter's Lane at the end of the universe."

Actor Michael Sheen is a "glorious guest villain."

Actress Suranne Jones: "Somebody who may turn out to be an old acquaintance of the Doctor's with a new face."

Plays with 47 years of Doctor Who mythology - takes "stuff" from The War Games and "an old William Hartnell episode I remembered."

Includes scenes where Matt is "vulnerable, disturbed and upset".

Gaiman gives a script example:
AMY: I told you to keep an eye on The Doctor.
RORY: He'll be fine, he's a Time Lord.
AMY: It's just what they're called. It doesn't actually mean they know what they're doing.

Matt Smith talks "The Doctor's Wife" and more...

Matt Smith has been talking to Entertainment Weekly.com and has been revealing some bits of info about the upcoming series. Here's what he had to say about The Doctor's Wife:

One of the episodes in the new season was written by comics legend Neil Gaiman. What can you tell us about that?
Well, um, not a great deal, as always. Sorry to be a pain! But we were thrilled to get a writer of his sci-fi stature and magnitude on board. And he’s applied his rather brilliant and mad brain to a brilliant and mad idea. All I can say is that the Doctor spends a lot of time with the Tardis.

Michael Sheen is in that episode. What was it like acting with him?
I didn’t, actually. Because he came in and did a voice for it. So I didn’t get any actual scenes with him. Which is a shame. But, god, it’s a real coup to get an actor of his quality.

You can also read a fascinating interview with Neil Gaiman on the same episode HERE. Now, normally I wouldn't speculate but the line: "All I can say is that the Doctor spends a lot of time with the Tardis," does make me wonder if Idris (Suranne Jones), the "old acquaintance with a new face", is in fact his TARDIS... Speculation over.

Series 6 update - Gaiman & Gatiss

As Series 6 bounds into full production, some details have been arising as to its content. Today a read~through for the Neil Gaiman story, currently Episode 3, took place. Speaking on his website, the Coraline writer said:

"... the table read was pretty amazing, the guest star or stars will be fabulous, Matt's great, Arthur's wonderful and I never got to say hullo to Karen (who was amazing)."

The 2011 Gaiman story is being directed by Richard Clark (Gridlock, The Lazarus Experiment) who is also directing a Mark Gatiss story for Series 6 (next in the shoot). The director describes the episode, which is currently number four in the series, as "wonderful".

ETA: The Gaiman episode is now fourth whilst the Gatiss episode has been put back to the second half of Series 6.

NEIL GAIMAN WRITES FOR WHO (for real?)

Well, I joked about it in THIS post but there are 'reports' that NEIL GAIMAN may indeed be writing for DOCTOR WHO under the stewardship of STEVEN MOFFAT. It's a while away yet but very exciting, if true. The same article also suggests that ROB SHEARMAN, writer of 2005's DALEK, will be back too.
